The Finnish American Studies Association is turning 30 this year! We invite you to celebrate with us in Helsinki on Friday, November 27, in a two-part FASA30 event.

Focus on Funding” Early Career Workshop
First, we will start the afternoon with a “Focus on Funding” Workshop for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. The workshop will consist of a roundtable discussion and a hands-on exercise. During the roundtable, three scholars will share their experiences in securing research funding and evaluating funding applications. Afterward, there will be time to discuss your own project ideas in small groups and receive feedback from our speakers and members of the FASA Board.

If you would like for your project idea to be discussed, please submit a max. one-page idea paper about a project for which you plan to apply for funding. This could be your current PhD project or a future postdoctoral project. In your paper, give a brief description of your project and focus on why it should be granted research funding. What is significant about your project? What is new and innovative about it? Send your idea paper to fasafinland@gmail.com by Monday November 23.
FASA30 Anniversary Panel Discussion
American Studies in Finland: Past, Present, Future
The FASA30 celebration will culminate in an Anniversary Panel on the theme of American Studies in Finland: Past, Present, Future. The panel features three scholars who have played a key role in the development of American Studies here in Finland. What brought American Studies to Finland? What has the relevance of this transdisciplinary field been and how has it changed over the decades? What challenges must we address now, and in the future, as American Studies scholars?
